Chelsea boss in the dark over Luiz

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says he is unsure when David Luiz will return to action.

The Brazilian defender, who has been linked with a January move away from Stamford Bridge, has been receiving treatment for a knee problem.

Luiz has been ruled out of Saturday’s away match against Stoke and has not featured since the defeat at Newcastle more than a month ago.

Meanwhile, Samuel Eto’o has been passed fit following his recent injury and Oscar could be involved this weekend.

Oscar scored Chelsea's first goal.
Oscar has been nursing an ankle injury.

Oscar picked up an ankle injury during Sunday’s win against Southampton but has made a good recovery and Mourinho may call upon him for the game against Mark Hughes’ side.

“David Luiz is out and I don’t know when I’ll have him back,” said Mourinho.

“Eto’o is fine and is back with the group. Oscar is also much better and I have to decide whether to play him or not, but he’s much better.”

Ashley Cole, who has also not been involved since the Newcastle game, is expected to play against Stoke or in next week’s Champions League clash with Steaua Bucharest.

Mourinho was unhappy with Cole’s display against the Magpies and has since deployed Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back.

But he explained: “Tomorrow or on Wednesday, Ashley Cole will play.

“It’s a position where I have alternatives. I have two players for the same position but it’s logical that I don’t give Azpilicueta four matches without giving Ashley one.”
