Chelsea beaten by AC Milan in Miami

Chelsea 0 AC Milan 1

Urby Emanuelson’s goal midway through the second half meant Chelsea ended their pre-season visit to the United States with a defeat.

They dominated much of the game, with skipper John Terry firing over from close range and later heading wide from a Frank Lampard corner.

But the Italian side finished the first half strongly and Emanuelson missed a good chance to put them ahead when he shot over after being set up by Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Emanuelson was denied by a fine save from Petr Cech early in the second half, but Chelsea responded with Lampard going close before Fernando Torres was brought off the bench for his first pre-season appearance.

Spain striker Torres – given an extended break because of his involvement in Euro 2012 – was quickly in the thick of the action, causing panic in the Milan box with the ball ricocheting to Lampard, whose effort drifted wide.

But Emanuelson broke the deadlock when he slotted home after Stephen El Shaarawy’s shot deflected into his path.
