Chelsea assessing new Caicedo injury

Chelsea are assessing another injury picked up by Moises Caicedo.

The midfielder came on as a second-half substitute in the 4-3 win against his former club Brighton, but was replaced just 13 minutes afterwards.

He looked distraught as he was helped off the pitch, flanked by medical staff, before heading straight down the tunnel.

Caicedo was sidelined for the Premier League opener against Fulham.

“Hopefully it’s not new, and it wasn’t more than last time,” said Blues boss Xabi Alonso.

“He was cautious to stop, to say that his feeling was not the best.

“We need to assess during the week that it wasn’t something else.”

Joao Pedro scored at both ends against his former club as Chelsea made it two Premier League wins out of two under new Alonso.

The Blues were three up after 32 minutes, with Romeo Lavia and Pedro Neto netting before Joao Pedro struck.

Brighton responded with Malick Yalcouye’s goal and were given real hope by Joao Pedro’s second-half own goal, but Cole Palmer’s cracking strike made the points safe before Pascal Gross scored a consolation for the visitors in the final seconds.

Having dominated early on, Chelsea spent much of the second half under pressure, but Alonso was unconcerned.

“I would say it’s quite normal,” Alonso said.

“It happens in many teams that have worked and had many games together. We are in this process. I am sure that this result, in the future we can manage it better.”
