Chelsea extend unbeaten WSL run with win over Arsenal

Chelsea beat 1-0 Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a bad-tempered Women’s Super League clash, with Alyssa Thompson scoring the winner.

The USA forward turned home the rebound after Keira Walsh’s powerful effort was parried by goalkeeper Anneke Borbe, putting Chelsea ahead late in the first half.

Chelsea, who have won three of their opening four league matches, defended comfortably against their London rivals. They were untidy in possession and created less than Arsenal at times, but made their main chance count.

Sonia Bompastor’s side were able to sit in after the goal and see out the win, frustrating Arsenal further as their attacking struggles continued.

Chelsea are third in the table, two points off City, and have now gone 12 WSL games unbeaten.
