Chelsea Under-23s at Everton: three stand-out performers

Kurt Zouma and Marco van Ginkel featured for Chelsea’s development side in a 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday evening.

Both men played the first half of the match at Southport, with defender Zouma taking another step towards a first-team return following a long-term knee injury.

Van Ginkel has also been sidelined with a knee problem – his outing was the Dutch midfielder’s first since he ended last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

Several Chelsea youngsters have impressed for the Under-23 side this season. Here are three who caught the eye in their latest appearance.

Dujon Sterling

Chelsea’s goalscorer. Netted with a powerful strike and was strong and committed throughout. Has been a big presence on the right-hand side for the team this season and has developed nicely over the last year or so.

Mason Mount

Involved in the build up to the goal and always looked to create – and have a shot at goal himself when the chance arose. Has good awareness and can pick a pass.

Ike Ugbo

The striker got into some great positions and was unlucky not to score. Quick and strong, he has comfortably made the step up from Under-18 level.
