Buurman’s late winner takes Chelsea into Women’s FA Cup semi-finals
Veerle Buurman’s late strike meant Women’s FA Cup holders Chelsea progressed to the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
The Blues took the lead five minutes before the interval when Sam Kerr headed in from a Keira Walsh cross.
Spurs drew level after half-time when Eveliina Summanen’s free-kick beat everyone in the area and flew over England keeper Hannah Hampton.
Chelsea, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal last week, had earlier seen efforts from Lauren James and Alyssa Thompson saved by Lize Kop. Kerr also missed a late chance to restore the lead when she failed to convert Wieke Kaptein’s cross.
But with extra time approaching, Buurman’s powerful shot from the edge of the box secured her first goal for the club and a place in the last four.
