Boss Di Matteo wary of Shakhtar threat

Roberto Di Matteo has warned that Chelsea cannot afford to underestimate Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League double-header against the Ukrainian side.

The European champions’ 4-0 victory over Nordsjaelland on Tuesday put them top of Group E, which also includes Juventus.

Chelsea travel to face Shakhtar on 23 October and play them at Stamford Bridge two weeks later, by which time they could be well on the way to reaching the knockout phase.

But Blues boss Di Matteo insisted: “The Ukrainian champions are a very good team and it’s going to be hard for us to qualify.

“There are no pushovers in the Champions League – look at Bayern Munich losing and Manchester United having to come back.”
