Drinkwater close to joining Burnley on loan

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has confirmed that he is looking to sign Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea.

The midfielder, 29, has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Leicester two years ago.

He did not feature at all under Maurizio Sarri last season and new Blues boss Frank Lampard has made it clear Drinkwater is not in his plans either.

Drinkwater has previously decided against leaving on loan but has indicated that he is willing to move this time.

And Dyche is hoping to get a deal done before Thursday’s 5pm transfer deadline.

“Danny’s one we thought could come in and his challenge is to get into the team,” Dyche said.

“It will be a challenge for him. I don’t think he’d come here expecting to walk straight into the team.

“On the other hand, I certainly don’t think he lacks belief in himself to force his way into the team.”
