Boost for Chelsea as Cole is passed fit

Ashley Cole is set to return to the Chelsea squad for this weekend’s visit of Manchester City.

The left-back has been sidelined since suffering a rib injury during his side’s 3-1 win at Norwich earlier this month.

He subsequently missed England’s recent World Cup qualifiers and failed to recover in time for Chelsea’s Champions League win against Schalke this week.

But Cole has made good progress over the last 48 hours and manager Jose Mourinho expects him to be available for the clash at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has played down the significance of Sunday’s game, which has been billed as a major test of Chelsea’s title credentials.

“We prepare for every game the same way,” he said.

“Every weekend somebody loses points. The league is hard so I don’t think at this stage one game is going to be crucial.

“We have tests every week. They’re a big team, but every match is a test so it doesn’t make a difference.”

  • After the way the entire defence played against Schalke in the week, if it aint broke don't try and fix it. David Silva is on fire on the wing for City and could give a returning from injury Ashley Cole a roasting. Aspalequeta is right footed and ideally suited to the role of taking on his fellow countryman. He should retain his position at LB following his brilliant display against Shalke. In fact the entire back line should be retained for the City game. Jose is just trying to take the heat off of his players because this definately IS a major game for both teams expecting to be fighting for the Premiership title this season. .
