Blues given good news on Eto’o and Luiz

David Luiz has returned to training and Chelsea have been further boosted by news that Samuel Eto’o’s injury is not serious.

Luiz is recovering from a knee problem, while Eto’o was carried off on a stretcher during Tuesday’s Champions League defeat against Basel.

Both players will miss Sunday’s game against Southampton but a scan has revealed that Eto’o is likely to be unavailable for only two weeks – a boost for Chelsea given that Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are the only other out-and-out strikers in their squad.

“David trained today with the team but it was for the first time and he doesn’t look in condition to be back for this weekend,” manager Jose Mourinho explained.

“The information I have on Eto’o is that it is a grade one muscular injury, which we think will be two weeks.

“I threw that number into the air but when I say two weeks, it won’t be a month. It could be 10 days – around two weeks.”
