Bertrand signs long-term Chelsea deal

Chelsea have confirmed that Ryan Bertrand has signed a new five-year contract.

The 23-year-old, who played in the Blues’ Champions League triumph against Bayern Munich in May, had been widely tipped to secure a long-term deal at Stamford Bridge.

It continues a remarkable few months for Bertrand, whose surprise appearance on the left of midfield against Bayern was his European debut.

He has since been capped by England, represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games and cemented his position as Ashley Cole’s potential replacement.

Following several spells out on loan, he began to establish himself as a Blues first-team player towards the end of last season and has been an important member of the squad so far this term.

Bertrand is currently with the England squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine.
