Napoli have appointed Rafa Benitez as their new manager, the Italian club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis has announced.
The 53-year-old Spaniard recently left Chelsea after the end of an eventful spell as interim boss, during which he guided the Blues to their Europa League triumph and a third-placed finish.
De Laurentiis posted a picture of the pair shaking hands on Twitter and wrote: “Rafa Benitez is the new coach of Napoli. A man of great international experience. A leader.”
Benitez will replace Walter Mazzarri, who has joined Napoli’s Serie A rivals Inter Milan.
Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who recently left Real Madrid, is widely expected to return to Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks.
