Benitez hails Ba after Chelsea victory
Interim manager Rafael Benitez praised Demba Ba after the striker scored twice on his Chelsea debut as the Blues crushed Southampton in the FA Cup.
Frank Lampard, Branislav Ivanovic and Victor Moses also found the net to help Chelsea ease into the fourth round with a 5-1 victory.
Ba’s performance following his recent move from Newcastle was a huge plus for Benitez, who now has more attacking options at his disposal.
“It is always important for a striker to score goals, but more than just the goals was his contribution for the team,” said Benitez.
“His movement and understanding of things we were wanting to do was really good. He was very clever and he could understand the movement of the players. He did everything well.
“It is important to have good players and different options, and Ba and Fernando Torres can compete or play together.”
