Benitez denies bust-up with players
Rafael Benitez has dismissed talk of a bust-up with Chelsea players in the wake of Sunday’s defeat against Manchester City.
Members of the squad, led by captain John Terry, made their feelings clear following the 2-0 loss.
But interim manager Benitez insisted: “It was a normal meeting between players and technical staff, which happens after every game.
“It was a normal talk, nothing else. You show your disappointment – that is normal.
“We had a meeting on the pitch with my players and technical staff, which is part of our business.”
Terry remains a key figure in the dressing room despite being used sparingly by Benitez since a recent knee injury.
Benitez, unpopular among many Blues fans, has dismissed reports of a rift with the skipper and described his relationship with the players as “fantastic”.
“It was a very brief exchange of ideas, nothing else. It was just a team talk after a defeat,” said the Spaniard.
“I can understand the frustrations of Terry. He is an important player for us and has been injured with his knee,” he added.
