Cesar Azpilicueta says he will help Reece James establish himself as a Chelsea first-team player.
Youngster James impressed on loan at Wigan last season and on his recent Chelsea debut, when he scored against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup and set up two other goals.
He has been tipped to oust the experienced Azpilicueta from the side but the Spaniard insists he can play a role in helping James blossom.
“He had an amazing spell last season at Wigan,” the Spaniard said.
“He showed his qualities; he’s a very strong lad, very good attitude.
“I will try to help him. Whatever he needs I am here to help the team even if he’s a right-back.
“I’m here to support him in the same way I am here to support all the young lads and hopefully he can be a very important player for the team.”
