AVB hails Terry after Chelsea triumph

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas paid tribute to John Terry and the rest of his defence after their FA Cup victory at QPR.

Terry produced commanding performance despite inevitably being barracked by the home fans, and the Blues continue to look more solid at the back.

Terry played well after a nervous start.

Villas-Boas said: “It was an excellent performance from John. He was very focused, managed to get the off-the-field events out of his head and concentrated on doing his job.

“It was a good, solid display defensively. We have been better in defence. We’re not conceding as many goals, look more organised, and when we score we manage to hold on.”

The Blues boss was delighted with his team’s second-half display at Loftus Road, where Juan Mata’s second-half penalty settled a tense west London derby.

“It was an excellent performance and there was a change from the first half in the second,” said the Portuguese.

“We dominated the game but in the first half were less incisive than in the second. Because of the amount of attacks we created in the second half we eventually created the penalty situation.

“QPR are not happy with the penalty. It was very similar to Heidar Helguson’s when we played here in October.”
