Chelsea thrash Man Utd in WSL

Chelsea thrashed Manchester United 5-0 in the Women’s Super League, with five different players getting on the scoresheet in a one-sided contest at the home of their opponents.

Sjoeke Nüsken opened the scoring after 21 minutes, latching onto a low cross after United had struggled to deal with a long ball forward, with defender Dominique Janssen misjudging its bounce and allowing Wieke Kaptein to nip in behind.

Keira Walsh doubled the lead before half-time — on her 100th WSL appearance — after United only partially cleared a corner, letting her collect on the edge of the box and curl a first-time effort past goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

Lauren James added a third early in the second half, latching onto a pass from Walsh before drilling low past Tullis-Joyce, and Ellie Carpenter made it four soon after, converting from close range having seen her first effort saved.

Giulia Dragoni came off the bench for her first WSL appearance, replacing Kaptein, before Lucy Bronze completed the rout late on, turning the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
