Chapman earns win for Chelsea Ladies

Katie Chapman’s first-half strike earned a 1-0 away win over Birmingham City Ladies and ensured Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea Ladies maintained their 100% start to the season.

England midfielder Chapman grabbed the only goal following a corner and secured a fourth straight league victory and sixth success from six in all competitions.

Fellow England international Eni Aluko went close to finding the net on a couple of occasions, Gemma Davison had a shot saved and Gilly Flaherty hit the post after the break.

But the Blues, who have only conceded one goal in four league games and two overall this season, were rarely troubled and did not need a second goal to see out the victory.

Emma Hayes’ side are next in action on Thursday, when they host Arsenal Ladies at Staines FC’s Wheatsheaf Park home. Kick-off is at 19:30BST.
