Wycombe eye permanent Mawson deal

Wycombe have contacted Brentford about the possible permanent signing of Alfie Mawson, who has turned down the offer of a new contract with the Bees.

Centre-back Mawson spent last season on loan with the League Two side and played in their play-off final against Southend at Wembley.

The 21-year-old’s current deal expires this summer and a number of other clubs have shown some interest in signing him.

As he is under 24, Brentford would potentially be entitled to compensation if he leaves as he is too young to move on a Bosman free transfer.

Mawson is yet to play a first-team game for Brentford but scored seven goals in 51 appearances during his spell at Wycombe.
