Warburton confirmed as Bees manager

Brentford have confirmed the appointment of Mark Warburton as the club’s new manager.

Warburton, who was the Bees’ sporting director, has taken over until at least the end of the season and fills the void left by Uwe Rosler, who quit Griffin Park to take over at Wigan last week.

Former Liverpool academy boss Frank McParland has joined Brentford to fill Warburton’s previous role.

Having overseen the club’s transfers, Warburton was a major figure during Rosler’s reign and brought in several of the players who almost won Brentford promotion to the Championship last season.

Earlier this year he turned down the chance to join West Brom as sporting director.

He has long been keen to take up a managerial role and was always likely to be a strong contender to replace Rosler in the event of the German moving on.

Warburton, who joined Brentford in February 2011, initially as a coach, worked alongside Nicky Forster following the departure of Andy Scott as manager before becoming sporting director after Rosler’s arrival later that year.
