Bees lose top spot after draw at Walsall

Walsall 1 Brentford 1

Craig Westcarr ‘s equaliser denied Brentford a club-record equalling ninth consecutive win and meant they were knocked off the top of League One.

They took the lead just before the half-hour mark when Clayton Donaldson netted with a glancing header from Jake Bidwell’s cross.

But Westcarr levelled on the stroke of the interval, adding the finishing touch after Walsall’s on-loan Chelsea youngster Milan Lalkovic headed across goal.

And the Saddlers would have taken all three points had David Button not produced a fine second-half save to deny Romaine Sawyers.

Stuart Dallas missed a good chance to win it for Brentford, who had earlier gone close when Marcello Trotta fired narrowly over.

The Bees remain unbeaten in 15 matches but Leyton Orient’s win at Crewe meant the east London side moved back to the summit.
