Transfer gossip: Several clubs reportedly interested in Marcondes

Several clubs are interested in Emiliano Marcondes following the news that he is leaving Brentford, according to the Mail.

Marcondes’ contract expires this summer and he will not be given a new deal by the promoted Bees.

He played a key role in the club reaching the top flight, scoring the second goal in their 2-0 victory over Swansea in the Championship play-off final.

And The Mail say clubs in England, France and Germany have been showing an interest.

Meanwhile, Football League World speculate that QPR and Nottingham Forest could try to sign Marcondes, having previously been linked with him.

Marcondes spent three-and-a-half years at Brentford, making 97 appearances for the club and scoring seven goals. He was hampered by injury problems during that time.

“Everyone could see what a big part Emiliano played in getting us promoted through the play-offs,” Bees boss Thomas Frank told the club website.

“He was man of the match in the final, scored a goal and was everywhere and I think he was even better in the semi-final.

“He has been a big part of the squad and played a lot of games at the start of the season. He had an injury early in 2021 but I knew I wanted to play him in the play-off games because of his personality and the way he performs on the big occasion.

“Overall, I think Emi has been unlucky in his time with us. He got some injuries at crucial moments, but he has been a big part of what we have achieved.

“Emiliano will be missed by us. I would like to thank him for all his work for us. I am sure he will do a great job for his next club.”
