Teenager strikes again but Brentford youngsters lose to Colchester

Teenager Reece Cole scored his second goal in as many games but could not prevent Brentford’s Under-21s from losing 3-1 to Colchester on Monday.

Courtney Senior, Jan Holldack and Gradi Milenge started in a fairly young side, captained once again by 18-year-old James Ferry, who has agreed contract extension.

Colchester, meanwhile, included a couple of players with first-team experience and striker Femi Akinwande, who they signed earlier in the day from Maldon & Tiptree.

It took only nine minutes for Akinwande to get on the scoresheet but Brentford levelled when Cole, who scored against Ipswich last week, beat goalkeeper Dillon Barnes with a free-kick from distance.

However Colchester took a grip on the game with two goals in five minutes in the second half. Kieran Bailey reacted quickest to a blocked shot to make it 2-1 and Chris Regis curled in the third.
