Smith bemoans ‘silly goals’ after Bees loss

Brentford boss Dean Smith bemoaned the two first-half goals his side conceded in their 3-0 defeat at Brighton.

The Bees faced an uphill task after Anthony Knockaert and Tomer Hemed scored for the hosts, whose victory was sealed by Jamie Murphy in injury time.

“We need to stop giving silly goals away,” said Smith, whose team had plenty of possession in the second half but struggled to create clear-cut chances.

“The first two goals have changed the game. Before that there was nothing in the game and we could have took the lead.

The Bees had plenty of the ball at the Amex Stadium

“They made it very difficult for us but we’ve got to do better, because we had a lot of possession without really testing their keeper.

“If we could have kept it at 0-0 I would have fancied us in the second half, but at 2-0 it was very tough.”

The defeat was Brentford’s fourth in six league matches.
