Sheffield Wednesday look set to sign Bees target

Brentford appear to have missed out on striker Sam Winnall to Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bees had put the 25-year-old Barnsley forward at the top of their list of targets to replace Scott Hogan, should he move to West Ham.

But Winnall, scorer of 11 goals in 23 games this season, has undergone a medical at Wednesday and could complete a move later on Thursday.

Hogan remains the subject of ongoing talks between the Bees and West Ham, who had a second bid, this time of £12m, rejected last weekend.

If Winnall’s move goes through, Brentford may turn their attentions to Bristol Rovers forward Matty Taylor, who has scored 15 goals in League One this term.
