Saville among Bees players hit by virus

On-loan Chelsea youngster George Saville missed Brentford’s Boxing Day win over Swindon with a virus that has affected several Bees players over the Christmas period.

Sam Saunders, Toumani Diagouraga and Scott Barron were also laid low with the illness, but Saunders recovered in time to score a superb free-kick during the 3-2 win.

Manager Mark Warburton said: “George was out with a virus we’ve had among the squad. They’ve been having hot and cold sweats and everything else.

“George is hopefully on the road to recovery but it’s a three or four-day illness.

“Toumani had it last Friday and we had him isolated in a hotel room at Preston, and on the train home. Sam Saunders also went down with it and Scott Barron too.

“It’s affected different players in different ways but we will deal with it – the doctor and the medical team have been first class.“
