Saunders’ late penalty puts Bees second

Sam Saunders’ injury-time penalty lifted promotion-chasing Brentford up to second in League One.

He kept his composure to slam home from the spot after being fouled in the area by former Bees man John Mousinho.

Stevenage’s thrashing of Sheffield United meant the deserved victory took Uwe Rosler’s side into the automatic promotion places.

Harlee Dean’s header, cleared off the line by David Buchanan, was the closest they came to scoring in a one-sided first half.

Saunders also went close and top scorer Clayton Donaldson had two efforts saved by keeper Declan Rudd.

Brentford continued to dominate after the break and Jonathan Douglas squandered a great chance to put them ahead, firing wastefully over from 10 yards.

Saunders then had a free-kick brilliantly saved by Rudd but ended up having the final word in dramatic fashion.
