Saunders hopes Bees find extra quality to make play-offs

Sam Saunders believes Brentford must find an extra touch of quality if they are to realise their ambition of reaching the play-offs.

A pre-season project to finish in the top 10 has now become an assault on the top six after a run of seven games unbeaten, with five wins and two goalless draws.

The Bees battled for another point in a fierce stalemate with fellow play-off contenders Notts County on Saturday, but were unable to find a breakthrough for the second match running.

Saunders produced two sublime goals against Bury earlier this month and he knows it may take something similar during the run-in to take his team above the like of Notts and Carlisle.

“We lacked that final bit of quality against Notts County,” Saunders told West London Sport.

“It was a downer not to get three points because we were up for it, the crowd were up for it and everyone could sense it was a big game.

“We are going to need that bit of quality – whether it be a final pass, run, cross or finish.”

Saunders added: “It’s not going to be as easy getting three wins from our last three games. Hopefully we’ll find that extra something.

“Stevenage away next week is a big game. If we win, we are still right in the mix. Sheffield Wednesday are up there with us and Chesterfield won’t want to finish  with a whimper.”
