Rosler encouraged by Brentford’s form

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler says he is impressed with his squad’s pre-season campaign so far and insists there will be no guaranteed starting places this season.

The Bees beat Championship side Millwall 3-0 and then produced an encouraging display in a 2-1 defeat against Scottish champions Celtic.

And with Rosler excited by several new signings, the German admits he has a lot of options.

“I’m very happy with the work we have done in pre-season so far,” he said.

“Our level of performance has been very good, even when major players have been out.

“I’m very happy with the squad at the moment. We need one or two additions but there is competition for places.

“I think this season every place will be up for grabs.”

Rosler gave successive starts to recent additions George Saville, Martin Fillo and Alan McCormack, while young goalkeeper Jack Bonham started in place of the injured Simon Moore against Celtic.

Harlee Dean, Clayton Donaldson, Jonathan Douglas, Toumani Diagouraga, Richard Lee and Farid El Alagui are all carrying injuries, as is new signing Will Grigg.

Rosler added: “Clayton, Will, Toumani and Farid are on a good way to recovery and could be back in training next week, but we lost Harley to a dead leg and it is too early to speculate how long he will be out.

“The new players have settled in really well. The way Jack Bonham played – his distribution was another level.

“Martin Fillo played a solid game and he is well suited to the way we want to play.

“Alan McCormack is rock solid. The three in midfield did extremely well, and again Jake Reeves when he came on was very lively and very busy.

“We have lots of options and don’t forget with Jonathan Douglas and Toumani Diagouraga we have two top-class players to return from injury. Will be very strong in that department.

“We played 68 games last season so we need a strong squad.”
