Rosler convinced Bees can sting Chelsea

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler insists his side will attack Chelsea and are capable of beating them at Stamford Bridge in Sunday’s FA Cup replay.

The Bees almost knocked Chelsea out when they met at Griffin Park, where Fernando Torres’ late equaliser rescued a 2-2 draw for the European champions.

And Rosler has dismissed suggestions that his team’s only realistic chance of reaching the fifth round has now gone.

Brentford were excellent in the first game.
Brentford were excellent in the first game.

“I believe it’s possible. The chances are slimmer, I said that before, but it is still possible,” he declared.

“The crucial thing for us is being competitive in the first half an hour – that we keep it 0-0 and also be brave and attack them.

“We have to be compact, winning the ball in the right areas, don’t make any mistakes and then counter them.

“As long as it stays 0-0, the bigger our chance will get because I think they will put more men forward and be more open.

“We will also have players on the bench who can come on and maybe change the game for us.”

Rosler urged his players to be brave ahead of Chelsea’s visit – and they responded with a barnstorming display.

The German will deliver a similar message before this weekend’s game and is convinced they will again respond.

He said: “It’s very important for us that we are brave and attack when we win the ball.

“The big message to my players is that we must win the ball and then attack in numbers.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for this club – for everyone connected with Brentford – to play against such a big club. Everyone’s excited about going to the Bridge.

“We don’t want to sit in the dressing room afterwards and say ‘Should we have been a little bit braver?’ That is the last thing we should ask ourselves after the game.

“We have nothing to lose and everything to win. We should go for it. That’s what I want to see, what our supporters want to see, and what my players will deliver.”
