Rosler closes in on Charlton forward

Brentford are hopeful of completing a deal to sign Charlton striker Paul Hayes in the next few days.

Bees boss Uwe Rosler has been chasing Hayes for several weeks and wants to have him on board by the time the season starts with a League Cup tie at Walsall on Saturday.

Hayes is surplus to requirements at Charlton and can leave the Championship club but is believed to have financial issues to resolve before he can move on.

Rosler has been boosted by the pre-season goalscoring form of recent capture Farid El-Alagui, who netted twice in Saturday’s 5-1 win at Basingstoke.

But the German is keen to sign at least one more forward – and Hayes would offer plenty of experience.

The 28-year-old has played for the likes of Barnsley, Preston and Scunthorpe and scored six goals in as many appearances during a loan spell at Wycombe last season.
