Rosler admits ‘difficult’ keeper dilemma

Brentford manager Uwe Rosler admits he faces a tough choice with keepers David Button and Richard Lee in a straight fight for the number one spot.

The German acknowledged he made a “massive call” by opting to continue with Button for the 3-1 win over Colchester on Saturday after the former Tottenham man made errors in the games against Peterborough and Stevenage.

Lee, back after a long-term shoulder problem, impressed while Button was recently suspended, but immediately lost his place when the summer signing from Charlton was available.

And Rosler said: “There is no number one or number two. It’s an open race – I have two equal keepers.

“Richard Lee has been excellent in the last 10 days in training.

“He is now fully recovered, he is permanently in training and made it really difficult for me [to choose].

“I had a massive call to make and I waited until the morning of the game. I didn’t tell anyone until the team meeting.

“I went with Button. Sometimes people will say ‘yes you back your players and give them confidence’ and sometimes when it’s not going well people will see it differently.

“But it can only be good for us because everyone knows they both have a chance to play, but they have to put it in in games and in training.

“I want to see more of what I’ve seen: a fair, open competition in training.”
