Brentford through after seeing off Reading

The fit-again Fabio Carvalho, starting a game for the first time in 11 months, scored as Brentford secured a place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

League One side Reading caused the visitors some problems after Callum Wilson’s early opener, but there was no way back for them once Carvalho made it 2-0 in first-half injury time.

Paudie O’Connor, who had a goal disallowed in the first half for a high boot, headed in from a corner to give the Royals hope, but Brentford saw the game out.

Carvalho was involved in the build-up to the first goal when he looked to exchange passes with Dango Ouattara and slipped while looking to gather the return pass, with the ball running to Wilson, who fired home.

And Ouattara set up the second goal, threading the ball through to Carvalho, who took a touch before finishing emphatically.
