Posh brushed aside as Bees win again

Peterborough 1 Brentford 3

League One leaders Brentford beat yet another promotion rival – their fifth straight win under new manager Mark Warburton.

They went ahead through midfielder Adam Forshaw’s early penalty after Peterborough keeper Robert Olejnik had brought down Sam Saunders in the box.

Posh levelled through Jack Payne but Saunders immediately retook the lead for his side with his fourth goal in as many games.

And Clayton Donaldson added the third in stoppage time to send Brentford three points clear at the top.

With on-loan Chelsea midfielder George Saville suspended and Will Grigg injured, Saunders continued his good form and drew the foul that allowed Forshaw to convert the opener from the spot.

Midfielder Payne equalised with a fine strike from distance that went in off the crossbar, but Saunders restored the lead just before the break with his own effort from the edge of the box.

Forshaw had another chance to score from the spot after Donaldson was fouled by Kgosi Ntlhe in the box just after the break, but his penalty was saved.

Substitute Stuart Dallas set up Donaldson to put the game out of sight, the striker side-footing his cross into the net right at the death.
