Dango Ouattara’s late goal gave Brentford a dramatic victory – the club’s first win at St James’ Park for 92 years.

Sven Botman put the hosts ahead, Vitaly Janelt equalised and Igor Thiago’s penalty in first-half stoppage time put the Bees ahead.

Bruno Guimaraes’ penalty looked like earning Newcastle a point, but the Bees hit back and moved up to seventh in the Premier League table, five points behind the top four.

This season Keith Andrews’ side have now done the double over Newcastle and Aston Villa and beaten both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Their success this term was largely down to their excellent home form – but this was their fourth win in their past five away matches.

They were denied what seemed a clear penalty early on, after Kieran Trippier pulled back Keane Lewis-Potter.

Newcastle made the most of their let-off, with Botman heading in Guimaraes’ corner.

But Brentford responded with Janelt’s header from Ouattara’s brilliant cross from the left.

And, having not got the penalty they wanted earlier, the Bees were awarded one when Mathias Jensen’s shot hit Jacob Murphy’s arm, and Thiago converted the spot-kick following a VAR check.

Newcastle wanted a penalty of their own early in the second half, but the ball clearly struck Rico Henry’s chest.

But they did get a penalty after referee Andy Madley viewed the pitchside monitor and saw Michael Kayode had tripped Guimaraes, who levelled from the spot.

But the outstanding Ouattara had the final word when he collected Jensen’s pass and shot through the legs of keeper Nick Hope.
