Loan signing hails Brentford spirit

On-loan Wigan defender Rob Kiernan says Brentford’s new arrivals have been struck by the spirit in the squad.

Both Kiernan and on-loan Fulham striker Marcello Trotta made their full debuts in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sheffield United.

And fellow newcomer Lee Hodson came on as a late substitute after joining temporarily from Kiernan’s former club Watford last week.

“There’s a great spirit here,” Kiernan told West London Sport.

“The new faces, including me, have been able to get into the swing of it quickly and we could see how much everyone was up for the Sheffield United game.”

Kiernan is primarily a centre-back but was thrust into a defensive midfield role in place of the suspended Jonathan Douglas and he was happy with his contribution.

“I haven’t played there for years – since my Watford Under-16s days actually,” he added.

“I thought I did okay. I was happy with my contribution to the first goal.

“I love it here at Brentford. I’m back home living in Watford and I feel much happier in myself.”
