Impressive Brentford denied victory at Leeds

A late Dominic Calvert-Lewin tap-in denied a dominant Brentford what would have been a deserved victory at Elland Road.

The Bees wasted numerous chances to put the game beyond reach both before after Kevin Schade’s exquisite flicked finish put them ahead just before the break.

But Schade’s cute first-time effort from Keane Lewis-Potter’s cross still looked enough to earn a second consecutive Premier League victory – until Calvert-Lewin converted from close range.

The Bees, so impressive in their stylish 3-0 destruction of Tottenham in their season opener, outplayed Leeds from the off.

Igor Thiago, Schade, Jaidon Anthony (pictured) and Mikkel Damsgaard all had chances to put them ahead before the goal, while Thiago also headed wide just before the half-time whistle as Keith Andrews’ side controlled possession and created opportunities with very little trouble.

Leeds managed only two attempts before the interval, neither of which were on target.

And although the home side briefly upped the tempo on the resumption, Brentford – with record signing Mamadou Sangare outstanding again – continued to hold sway.

Anthony had a shot blocked, Damsgaard nodded a good chance over, and Dango Ouattara and Michael Kayode’s also could have added to the lead.

Leeds finally threatened, Dan James making a hash of a good chance and Caoimhin Kelleher finally called into action to keep out a low James Justin strike – and then Calvert-Lewin netted.
