Bees win at AFC Wimbledon in friendly

Brentford opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win in a friendly at Wimbledon, where Vitaly Janelt picked up an early injury.

Joel Valencia scored the only goal of the game, heading in the rebound after Fin Stevens’ shot had hit the bar.

Stevens replaced Janelt, who limped off after 13 minutes at Plough Lane with what looked like a hamstring problem.

On a brighter note for the Bees, midfielder Shandon Baptiste returned to action, having been out since last September because of a knee injury.

Boss Thomas Frank suggested after the game that Janelt’s injury is not serious.

First-half Brentford team: Raya, Pinnock, Russell, Gordon, Janelt (Stevens 13), Roerslev, Gilbert, Ghoddos, Mbeumo, Toney, Valencia.
Second half: Gunnarsson, Stevens, Goode, Racic, Thompson, Oksanen, Baptiste, Haygarth, Canos, Fosu, Mogensen (Gordon 86).
