Ipswich hit back to deny Bees another win

Ipswich 1 Brentford 1

Neal Maupay scored his eighth goal of the season but Brentford had to settle for a point at Portman Road.

Maupay put the Bees ahead just after the half-hour mark but Kayden Jackson’s second-half goal rescued a point for Ipswich.

Maupay pounced after Ollie Watkins’ shot spun into the air, planting his header beyond keeper Dean Gerken and into the net.

Striker Maupay would have scored earlier had his header not been cleared off the line by Luke Chambers.

Both teams hit the woodwork in the second half before Ipswich drew level.

Jackson’s overhead kick hit the bar and Yoann Barbet went close to doubling the visitors’ lead when his free-kick hit the bar and Ipswich were able to scramble the loose ball to safety.

Brentford remain second in the Championship table but will be disappointed to have conceded with 17 minutes remaining, when Jackson headed home a ball into the area from on-loan Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah.

And Jackson missed a chance to win it for Ipswich in injury time, firing hide and wide with just keeper Dan Bentley to beat.
