Hogan’s double gives Brentford victory

Brentford 2 Burton 1

Scott Hogan scored both goals as Brentford battled to secure a much-needed win.

Hogan put them ahead with a superb finish and then restored their lead after Jamie Ward had equalised for Burton.

The Bees, beaten in their previous four matches, took the lead in the 10th minute.

Romaine Sawyers threaded a pass through to Hogan, who turned and fired home with a fantastic first-time finish.

But Burton hit back 17 minutes later, when Ward scored from 15 yards out after being found by Lucas Akins’ pull-back.

Brentford were the better side, however, and Hogan went close twice before the break.

Jon McLaughlin produced a fine save to keep out the striker’s header from Sawyers’ cross and Hogan was then unlucky when he chased a lofted pass and lobbed McLaughlin only to see his effort hit the post.

But Hogan struck seven minutes into the second half, pouncing in the box and rounding McLaughlin to score his 13th goal of the season.

Brentford substitute Tom Field almost scored his first senior goal when his injury-time header from Maxime Colin’s cross was cleared off the line by John Brayford.
