Bees boss wants Odubajo despite injury setback

Dean Smith hopes Brentford offer Moses Odubajo a contract despite a slight injury setback.

The Bees have been considering re-signing Odubajo, who has been training with them since leaving Hull City. 

 

Brentford boss Smith says he has seen enough to want to retain Odubajo, whose time at Hull was blighted by a knee injury that kept him out of action for two years.

The 24-year-old is currently nursing a hamstring problem which kept him out of the Bees’ pre-season defeat against Watford.

Smith said: “We’re looking to get Moses fit. It’s just a tight hamstring and, with his previous injuries he’s had, we’re just looking to manage him through.

“I wouldn’t have had him in the place if we weren’t considering signing him. I think everybody at the football club knows what he’s capable of – the quality of the player.

“And I’ve seen enough of him in training and pre-season games to know he is the player that he was.

“But it’s about how we can manage him to get games out of him without him breaking down.

“What we have to make sure is that the boy’s fit and maybe able to go and play 20, 30 games a season.”

Odubajo joined Brentford in 2014 and was sold to Hull for £3.5m a year later.
