Grigg insists Brentford can stay on track

Striker Will Grigg insists Brentford’s players are determined not to let the recent change of manager affect their promotion bid.

The Bees extended their recent good run to nine matches without defeat by beating Oldham on Saturday in their first game since Mark Warburton’s appointment as manager.

It was the perfect response to the disappointment of losing Uwe Rosler to Wigan.

“At the end of the day, it’s down to the players,” said Grigg.

“We’ve got a squad that’s capable of getting promoted. Obviously managers make a big difference, but it’s us that has to do it out on the pitch.

“The boys are happy. The appointment that’s been made is a good one and we showed against Oldham that we want to keep playing good football as much as possible.

“We’ve just got to continue what we’ve been doing over the past few months.”

The Northern Ireland international added: “The main thing is we didn’t want to change a lot. Everyone knows the gaffer and that he’s not going to change too much – just put his opinions and points across.

“Training’s been good. We’ve been playing some nice high tempo stuff, which is exactly how we want to play.

“So hopefully we’ll be able to show to the fans that we won’t let the change affect us too much.”

There has been speculation that Rosler could attempt to sign some of Brentford’s best players for Wigan.

But Grigg said: “We can’t worry about that until it happens and if it does we’ve got good enough players in the squad to do well in this league.

“It’s a possibility but we’ve got to concentrate on the upcoming games over Christmas. There are still a lot of games to be played before January.”
