Frank rues Brentford’s ‘terrible’ first-half display

Thomas Frank admitted Brentford paid the price for a “terrible” first-half performance at Brighton.

The Bees were beaten 2-0 at the Amex Stadium, where Neal Maupay scored against his former club.

Both the Seagulls’ goals came in a one-sided first 45 minutes.

“In the first half we were, especially on the ball, terrible,” said the Brentford head coach.

“There were too many bad decisions, bad quality and not enough personality on the pitch.

“The biggest thing today was that we just kept giving the ball away. Too many times we just gave it away.”

Frank took Mathias Jensen off at half-time in an attempt to improve things.

“It’s always harsh on the player that goes off,” said Frank.

“We needed to change a bit. I felt that we needed to be more dynamic.

“On the ball in the first half we were not good enough.”

Bryan Mbeumo was taken off four minutes before the interval because of a tight calf.

And Rico Henry missed the game with what Frank described as “a minor-grade” hamstring injury.

Henry is unlikely to be fit for Wednesday’s visit of Manchester City but will be back “hopefully sooner rather than later,” Frank said.
