Frank hoping for good news on Karelis after stunning Brentford win

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is hoping Nikos Karelis has not suffered a serious injury after being stretchered off on his debut against Millwall at Griffin Park, where the Bees pulled off an incredible late comeback. 

The Greece striker injured his right knee – the opposite joint to that which kept him out for over a year during his time at Genk.

Karelis’s departure hit Brentford hard and they subsequently went 2-0 down before fighting back to win 3-2 in stoppage time.

Frank confirmed: “He will not play on Tuesday (away to Swansea).

“We will reassess him tomorrow and see if it’s a shorter one or a longer one. We hope it’s a shorter one. He had done well before he got injured.

“But the result was definitely a breakthrough. I think Christian Norgaard did an interview before the game in which he said you need to be in a war together a few times to find out how you will react as a team.

“I think we have had some crucial experiences before now and today is a massive one – especially at Griffin Park. The character to turn it around is unbelievable and that should give us a boost.”
