Frank happy with Brentford’s display against ‘fantastic’ Liverpool

Thomas Frank was pleased with what he saw from his Brentford side even though two late goals condemned them to defeat against Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score twice in second-half stoppage-tmie for the Premier League leaders after the Bees had defended resolutely for much of the game.

Brentford are now winless in their past five home games across all competitions.

But boss Frank said: “Overall a good performance against a fantastic Liverpool team that I think is the best team in the Premier League.

“They’re number one, so I don’t think that’s a surprise for anyone, but they’re probably also the best team in the world.

“We just played against Manchester City and Arsenal; I think they are a level above the two others right now. [They are] more complete in all phases of the game.

“I think we did well. We competed well. We defended extremely well throughout the game, gave very few big chances away.”

Brentford look set to pick up a point, but Liverpool were eventually rewarded for their persistence.

“It’s a perfect example of where Liverpool are,” Frank admitted.

“We blocked the shot and it dropped inch-perfect so Trent [Alexander-Arnold] can pull it back for Nunez to score [the first goal] – if he had to take a touch we would adjust a bit and maybe make a block.

“They are exceptionally good, they didn’t win because the ball dropped for them, but it’s also going their way which is well deserved.

“Offensively we created quite a few good opportunities but maybe lacked the final quality or sharpness plus Liverpool defended well.”
