Boss Frank happy with Bees squad

Brentford boss Thomas Frank insists the club do not need to have a huge recruitment drive this summer to bolster his squad.

The Bees are on course for a top-10 finish in only their second season in the Premier League and have kept faith with much of the squad that earned promotion in 2021.

Eight of the starting line-up that beat Chelsea on Wednesday played for the club in the Championship and Frank believes that core group of players has been a main factor in why the club have survived comfortably in the top flight.

They face a Nottingham Forest side on Saturday who have signed 30 players in two transfer windows and Frank expects his club to once again act responsibly to build on what they already have.

“I think we have a good, strong squad and I am satisfied with what we have got,” Frank said.

“I think like normal we will look at players and if we can recruit one of two that will be good to refresh the squad.

“There may be more, but I don’t think there is any real need in any one position. I am pretty satisfied with what I have.”

Frank praised Forest boss Steve Cooper for the way he has managed to steer the East Midlands outfit out of the bottom three despite the disruption he has had to deal with behind the scenes, with the club axing two sporting directors this season in addition to their huge outlays on players.

“I think it is even more impressive what Steve has done with the amount of players and changes they have had,” Frank said.

“I think in football there is no right or wrong way to success.

“There is a way I believe in, but that is definitely not the only way.

“But there is evidence that having a core group of players like we have and Sheffield United did a few years back and Leicester too when they won the Premier League, works.

“Having that foundation is important to build relationships and culture, then comes the tricky part of refreshing the squad.”
