Frank praises Brentford players after ‘incredible performance’

Brentford boss Thomas Frank praised the character of his side to come back from behind and beat Everton 3-2 at Goodison Park.

The Bees found themselves a goal down early on when Anthony Gordon’s free-kick was diverted in by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, before Jarrad Branthwaite was shown a straight red card for the home side for bringing down Bees striker Ivan Toney.

But after Richarlison’s penalty saw the home side go in at the break ahead, following a Seamus Coleman own goal which had levelled the score, Frank’s side came back in the second half to take all three points thanks to goals from Yoane Wissa and Rico Henry.

Substitute Salomon Rondon was also shown red late on for a lunge on Henry to make matters worse for the relegation-threatened Toffees.

And Frank was full of praise for the belief shown by his side to pick up another win.

He said: “It was an incredible performance and shows a lot about our character.

“Some of the ‘experts’ said they expected us to be going on holiday now we are safe, but it’s important to show we respect this league and try and win every game.

“We struggled until their first goal. We didn’t handle their long balls well enough but then we came back into the game.

“The red card in a way helped us but a lot of teams haven’t won if they’ve been behind and playing 11 v 10. But we came back, went behind again, came back again.

“I’m delighted. It’s obviously a difficult place to come and play.”
