Former Liverpool and Pompey defender joins Bees on trial

Former Liverpool, Portsmouth and Birmingham City defender Gregory Vignal has joined Brentford on trial.

The left-back, 31, spent five years at Anfield and had a loan spell at Glasgow Rangers before spending a season with Pompey.

He had a trial with QPR in 2009 but ended up joining Birmingham, where he made only eight league appearances.

Vignal was named in Brentford’s starting line-up for a pre-season friendly at Wycombe on Tuesday evening.

The Bees are keen to sign a left-back and have been waiting to discover whether Everton’s Jake Bidwell, who was loaned to them last season, can return to Griffin Park.
