Lions looking to sign Brentford’s Mawson

Millwall are keen to sign Brentford defender Alfie Mawson.

Mawson’s contract expires this summer and he has turned down the offer of a new deal.

Wycombe, where the 21-year-old spent last season on loan, have contacted Brentford about possible permanent signing but Mawson would prefer a move elsewhere.

Barnsley, who were relegated from the Championship last term, have also expressed an interest in the youngster, as have Oxford United. FLIC Wiltshire have reported that Swindon Town are also interested.

As Mawson is under 24, Brentford would potentially be entitled to compensation if he leaves, as he is too young to move on a Bosman free transfer.

Mawson is yet to play a first-team game for Brentford but scored seven goals in 51 appearances during his spell at Wycombe.
