Arsenal v Brentford player ratings

Brentford worried Arsenal with a second-half rally before bowing out of the Carabao Cup. Here’s how we rated each Bees player in their 3-1 loss at the Emirates Stadium.

Luke Daniels: 6

Could do little about the first-half goals which beat him. Some panicky clearance kicks suggested a few nerves, but good saves to deny Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Nacho Monreal from close range.

Moses Odubajo: 7

First start of the season and worked hard to subdue the threat from the marauding Gunners skipper Monreal, before showing his worth at the other end of the pitch. Taken off just past the hour.

Julian Jeanvier: 7

Vital off-putting challenge to prevent Emile Smith Rowe from making it 2-0 early on and had a very solid evening at the heart of the defence, even if outmuscled by Alexandre Lacazette for Arsenal’s third in injury time.

Ezri Konsa: 6

Disappointing failure to get closer to Danny Welbeck for the opening goal, but recovered his composure. Booked for a first-half foul on Lichtsteiner.

Yoann Barbet: 6

Got forward to test Bernd Leno from outside the box and put in a lot of hard yards. Had a late shout for a penalty after a charge into the box.

Boss Dean Smith can feel proud of his players

Nico Yennaris: 6

Created a good opening for Sergi Canos and managed to get into pockets of space and link several dangerous moves during a vastly improved second half for the Bees.

Kamohelo Mokotjo: 6

Struggled to close down Henrik Mkhitaryan’s damaging midfield runs before the break – the second goal being the prime example. On the front foot much more during the Bees’ revival.

Romaine Sawyers: 6

Typified the second-half fightback. Anonymous during the first 45 minutes, but a bigger presence as the game wore on.

Alan Judge: 8

Superb free-kick over the wall at the start of the second half revived Brentford hopes and fired in another effort that had the Arsenal keeper scrambling.

Ollie Watkins: 6

A mistake from Shkodran Mustafi gave him a run at Leno, but he was smothered by covering defenders. Not a night when he managed to fashion many clear openings. Replaced by Said Benrahma late on.

Sergi Canos: 7

Gave Stephan Lichtsteiner a stern examination down the left flank. Almost found the net after the break with a sweeping low shot and fired just over soon after Judge’s strike.

Henrik Dalsgaard: 6

On for Odubajo just past the hour. A solid contribution down the right.
